I love the cricut. I have the cricut and SCAL and I love the combination. You can use it with or without SCAL. (to cut true type fonts) or by itself with carts. For the sake of not taking 15 minutes to retype it all, let me find the link to a similar discussion last week.

This is the logo I traced in SCAL. I traced it, saved it. Then broke it apart and deleted the yellow letters so I'd have the black to cut the outline. Saved that, went to the original trace, broke it a part and deleted the outer shape to cut the yellow. Then I layerd the two pieces of vinyl together...

SCAL!! I know you guys already know I love it. But I just used the trace feature to trace a logo for a project I'm working on. It worked PERFECTLY!!! SWEET!!! I'll post pictures later.....just wanted to let you all know, you can go to bed tonight and sleep easy - it's awesome!

I've been planning to do some videos on SCAL (using it to create your own shape files). Here 's the first one. (Sorry to have to post it on my blog - I can't put a video up on the MB). This one is very basic. They'll continue to progress.

No worries (happens to the best of us !!! SCAL is only avail by internet. It won't let you use your carts, but IMO, you'll be much farther ahead by getting it. You can still use the carts you have in the machine, but when you want to have more control of what you cut, use SCAL. I'm happy...
