Hey everyone -
With submissions open for our March/April 2013 issue, I am so excited about the "Natural Fibers" feature. This is such a fun trend at the minute, and there are so many fun things you can do to alter natural fibers like burlap, canvas, cork, twine, etc.
What are your favorite natural fibers to work with?
Have you tried any alterations? Which mediums would you like to try out?
As for me - playing with Gelatos on canvas is loads of fun - try it!
I have misted muslin and stamped on canvas. I have also run them through my diecutting machine (Big Shot).
Wow - great idea! Haven't tried muslin yet, so I'll have to add that to my long list of things to experiment with!
I have used burlap, twine(real sisal), wool felt, wool yarn (we have our own sheep), wool material, muslin and cotton gauze. I cut the felt and material with my Sizzix. I love using natural fibers in my LOs!

I also like to use real wool (sheep here too), chicken feathers (cleaned), pressed flowers and grasses.

Robin your LOs are always amazing you should totally submit some for this to CK Mag!!!! would love to see yours featured!!!!
lately mine have been mostly digital, ( not by choice but by lack of LSS and supplies, even cardstock and pp is dried up in our area at the moment!) ,so bit hard to submit for this category, though there are digi elements out there I don't think thats quiet what the mag is looking for here LOL!!!!!

I googled it because I had no idea....

Probably not something I'd invest in....there's too much other stuff that doesn't require artist ability to play with! LOL
Well, apart from being an amazing type of ice cream, Gelatos is a awesome material from Faber-Castel! They actually look like chapstick tubes. but are a great coloring tool that is water-soluble. Just spread some Gelato goodness on a canvas or burlap (much like you would rub chapstick on your lips). You can leave the color dark and vibrant or add a few drops of water to the color and spread it around. While at CHA, I used the Gelatos to decorate a canvas banner and I was hooked. Honestly - these work really well on cardstock or more mixed media fabrics.
Cool!!
I love using burlap, cork, twine and leaves. I love to try different textures technique. And this is one of my favorite card with different textures.
