Certain
scrapbook techniques are guaranteed to transform a layout from blah to
beautiful. Heat embossing is such a technique. Learn how to emboss an accent to
create a beautiful finish, like Lynn
Ghahary did on the accent below. You'll also learn the technique of using
emboss resist for added pizzazz.

Step-by-Step
Instructions: Heat Emboss

1.
Stamp image using embossing ink.
Hint: Before stamping,
you may want to use an Embossing
Buddy to help the embossing powder stick only to the inked area. The
Embossing Buddy reduces static on the cardstock, so the powder sticks only to
the ink. Simply rub the bag over the area of paper you will be embossing before
you stamp. If you don't have an Embossing Buddy, you can also use a dryer sheet
or sprinkle cornstarch on the cardstock to achieve a similar result.
--

2.
Sprinkle embossing powder over image. Remove excess powder.
--

3.
Heat powder using a heat tool. Let cool.
--
Step-by-Step
Instructions: Emboss Resist
To
create an emboss-resist look, follow the three steps above, and then add these
steps as well.

4.
Add ink to a paintbrush. You may add a few drops of ink refill to a small bowl
of water to dilute the color.
--

5.
Gently paint the image. (Note: You
can also use other color mediums such as chalk, inkpads, or pens for this
technique.) Wipe ink from the embossed area using a paper towel. The ink will
not stick to the embossing powder. Let dry.
Tip: If your paper
curled during painting, then wait until it has dried completely. Then turn it
over and place it under a heavy object, such as a hardbound book, to flatten it.
