Big Picture Classes Weekend Scrapbook Challenge: Scrap those Precious Photos!

Ready for a scrapbooking challenge from Big Picture Classes? Here we go!

Project Remake! Take those precious photos off a damaged or beyond repair layout. Then scan and save the images on to your computer. Now you can safely create a new layout using your original photos.

Recently I found a crumpled up layout in one of my kids bedrooms, and the layout had original photos from 1995 that I do not have the negatives for. As you can imagine, I wanted to save the photos but wasn't concerned about rescuing the actual layout. I deconstructed the layout, scanned and archived the photos, then set out making a new layout using these precious photos of my twin boys as babies and toddlers.

My favorite method for archiving physical photos is an app called Shoebox.com. It allows you to scan photos using your phone then archives it online at 1000 Memories for you. It is easy, slick, and free!

Twice by Wendy Smedley for Big Picture Classes.

Now that my precious photos are digitally archived, I can use the originals on a layout. I grouped the photos all together on top of a foundation of patterned paper. To add color, texture, and more patterns, I grouped stickers and a few embellishments, anchoring them near photos.

Now you have no excuses to save those precious photos to scrapbook! Simply archive the photographs and scrap those precious memories today!

To do this challenge yourself, deconstruct a damaged layout (or one you've been meaning to update), and make a new layout using the original photos.

When you're done, upload your layout to the Club CK gallery and then reply below with a link to your layout.

The deadline is Monday, September 10, 2012, at 9:00 AM MDT.  We'll choose a random winner, and the winner will receive a spot in May Flaum's Kit-tastic class (see below for more details).

That's some fabulous advice.  I don't have any damaged LO's but I will keep that in mind if it ever happens!  Many of my albums are packed away since we're in the middle of a move so i can't dig out an old LO to re-do.  Thanks for the challenge!

This is a great challenge.  I love the new page!!  I'll have to remember to scan my old photos if I come across a damaged page, great tip!

Thanks for the challenge!  I can't think of any pages I have that are damaged beyond repair (I'm very blessed in that situation).  But what a great page redo!

I am going to take the challenge and look for a layout to redo!  You are making me wish I had a smart phone ... that app sounds really great!

Fabulous challenge.  I have just the layout I want to redo....it's not damaged, it's just one that I've never been happy with and that's a shame because I love love love the picture!!

I love the challenge! I, however, don't have any layouts that are beyond repair at the moment. Your new layout is much more awesome than the first was though!

I have several LOs that were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina but salvaged some of the pics. I will have to see if any of those are worth "remaking". Thanks for the tip - and the challenge.

It didn't have a layout that was damaged, but I did find one for which I wanted to tell a different story.

Here are my after (and the before in the comments).  Thanks for challenge!

I did this very thing with my husband's old album...lots of 80's photos on the sticky plastic pages which had discoloured and had loose pages that couldn't be repaired. I have since scanned them and now have to put them into current scrapbooks!

Great challenge but no damaged LO's for me (that I'm aware of yet) and I refuse to just deconstruct a page because my style has changed ... if I do that, I'll never even be close to "caught up." ;-) But that's exactly what I'll do if I come across a damaged LO. Thanks again for the ideas!

Thanks for the challenge. I had just the LO that I needed an excuse to remake. I've only remade 2 LO in 20 years that I can remember, but I've always disliked this one and am happy to have it different.

Here's mine: clubcreatingkeepsakes.com/.../998428.aspx

I scraplifted the background idea from Sandy P's take on this challenge. Thanks Sandy!

I was very inspired to use an old damaged photo of my mother with me as a baby. Luckily I had already tried fixing it up in photoshop ( when I had it!). created in microsoft powerpoint...this is my late entry....
