One hour challenge: From thrift store to MORE!

Often in my crafting and scrapbooking I find myself thinking of various ways to re-use materials in different ways. I never know when this "inspiration" will turn into action and sometimes the urge to create comes at the oddest time!

One of these "instances" happened recently when I was at the thrift store. Now sometimes this "inspiration comes as a gentle nudge... this time it was a full blown assault. I suddenly had an urge to create something with T-shirts... yes I said T-Shirts! With all of the beautiful embellished t-shirts that are in apparel right now, my mind raced to all of the fun things that could be done with such an inexpensive item.

Here is a project I used creating the bottom seam of a variety of colored t-shirts. This is a real simple embellishment. Just cut off the seam and use a sturdy double sided tape to adhere it down. For this project I used Crafty Power Tape by SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L.

You Color My World by Liz Hicks. Supplies: Bazzill Basics Paper; Paint: Plaid; Stickers: Echo Park Paper Co; Thread: Gutermann; Adhesive: SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L; Other: Sequins, canvas, tulle, silver cord and gems

By using the bottom seam of 6 different colored t-shirts, I created this cute little rainbow. To make the rainbow sparkle a little more (I kind of always have to do that... it's just me Smile) I added monochromatic sequin to each color of the rainbow. The rainbow itself was super easy and only took about 10 minutes to create.

Using t-shirts as accents can create so many new fun embellishments in your layouts, from shapes to blossoms, rosettes, ruffles... the possibilities are endless!

Your challenge is to create a project, accent, or scrapbook page using a t-shirt. Thanks for joining the fun today; I can't WAIT to see what you all come up with!

--Liz Hicks

P.S. For more ideas on how to use T-shirts as accents check out my blog. I will be doing a fun fabric tutorial and giveaway from June 14th- 21st (2011).

Here's my project! I twisted the t-shirt fabric like I have seen done with Cosmo Cricket glubers. I didn't use a gluber though, just hot glue. :)

Here is my layout using my daughter's T-shirt from Halloween.  It was one of her favorite shirts.  She doesn't know I did this. :)

And here is what the T-shirt looked like before I started the layout.

oops, not sure if my picture went through.  It's of the T-shirt I used before I started to work on my layout.

I took a little creative license on this one and used the collar from an old shirt that had belonged to my husband (since that what was readily available in my craft area) to make a flower!  Thanks for the challenge Liz!

Wow, if a sewing machine can be possessed, mine was this morning! Ugh! But here it is. clubcreatingkeepsakes.com/.../642511.aspx

Fortunately, the LO is masculine, so some skipped and broken stitches look like I planned it that way ;)

This shirt says it all!!!  Journaling reads: This is a TRUE statement in our house.  BUT if you ask Grandma about it....Daulton is NOT spoiled - he is well taken care of.

It took me longer than the original one-hour deadline so I'm submitting the layout for the long challenge. Here's the link to my page:

Here's mine - for the long challenge. I used part of a T-shirt as a photo mat; it did an interesting thing all on it's own that sort of makes the LO. Thanks, Liz - I would never have thought of this on my own!

This was so fun & a technique I will definately use again.  I thought this was going to be a difficult challegen then it hit me one night, a t-shirt with stamping ink would make a super cute tree!  Here's my card with a t-shirt tree:
