One-Hour Challenge: Create a Scene with Buttons or Brads

In the upcoming Scrapbooking Tips & Tricks: Tools & Techniques special issue from Creating Keepsakes, you'll find an article called "The Best of Buttons and Brads," which brings you eight creative ways to use buttons and brads. In this online article, you'll find a peek of a few looks you can create, including trees and clouds.

Your creative challenge today is to make a layout or card accent using buttons or brads to create some sort of scene based on the inspiration you receive in this article. You don't have to create trees or clouds. Just choose a shape that fits your set of photos. If you finish the entire layout or card, that's fabulous--we'd love to see the completed project! But if your button-and-brad scene is intricate and takes the full one-hour timeframe to complete, just upload your page background or element with the creative button/brad shape. You can use just buttons, just brads, or both to create your accent.

Whatever way you choose to create your accent, you have sixty minutes to do so! By participating, you even have the chance to win a goodie bag of scrapbooking supplies!

At the end of the 60 minutes, photograph or scan your layout or card, and upload the image to the Club CK gallery (learn how to upload your layout here). Then leave a comment below with the URL link to your page by 11:15 a.m. MST today. For example, your comment could look like this: "My page is posted here: http://clubcreatingkeepsakes.com/media/p/31086.aspx." One winner will be randomly selected who participates in the live challenge.

If you couldn't join us for the live challenge, you can still enter to win! A second prize will be awarded to one randomly selected person who leaves the URL link to his or her page in the comments section below by Monday, July 12, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. MST.

We can't wait to see what you create!

--Brittany Beattie, Club CK social director

Winners Announced!

Congratulations to Angela and justbusyscrappin, who are the randomly selected winners. To claim your prize, look for a message in the My Conversations section of your My Profile page on Club CK.

Here is a card I made using buttons that were laying around that I bought at my LSS over one year ago! Thanks for the challenge, and for getting my stash out!

I have had these buttons for about 7 years now and was waiting for just the right thing to use them on. My Great Aunt is 100 this weekend and the card is absolutly perfect for her! Huggers Alesia

I love using brads on my LO but buttons, haven't bought or had enough in my supplies to use yet.  You know I save the ones from shirts and the ones that come out of the dryer.  There are some really cute LO in some of the links.

Good luck to all!

Wish I could have participated in the one-hour challenge and enjoyed all the wonderful ideas that everyone came up with.  As I started on this layout, I realized I could implement this challenge into it by making button flowers - not very original idea but it matched my theme so well.  TFL.

Great idea. I didn't participate on Wednesday because I was scrapping with friends.I'm away from home without buttons and brads.  But I hope I can find time to try when I get home. Even if I don't it will inspire some future page.

I am so glad this challenge was posted! I used up a ton of buttons and a bunch of flowers that I had been wondering what to do with.

Here's what I actually accomplished in one hour

And here is my finished layout

Didn't have time to do during the one hour challenge, but since I never use buttons I wanted to try it.  Here is my layout:

I love buttons and brads so this looks like it's right up my alley.  I LOVE the tree in the photo! Both my button collection and my brad collection are ridiculously huge - I need to use some and this scenery idea is awesome!
